Restaurants of Some Repute for Dinner

Blairsville/Young Harris

Brasstown Valley Resort
6321 Highway 76, Young Harris
706.379.9900

Just off the four-lane east of Young Harris. Very good food in an elegant mountain setting. Also good for lunch. Beer and wine. Lots of folks like the Friday evening seafood buffet.

Enrico's
3295 Dogwood Lane, Young Harris
706.896.1990

This is past the Brasstown Valley Resort, on the right. Start to look for it when you get in the vicinity of the lake. Beer, wine, liquor. A lot of people think this is the best restaurant in the area.

Blue Ridge Area

Toccoa Riverside Restaurant
8055 Aska Road, Blue Ridge
706.632.7891

On Aska Road near the Shallowford Bridge. Great deck overlooking the river. Brown bag. There can be a wait on Friday and Saturday nights.

Copperhill, Tennessee

Iron Horse Grill
50 Ocoee Street, Copperhill
423.496.9991

Downtown Copperhill. Bass and Guinness on tap.

El Rio Mexican Restaurant
23 Ocoee Street, Copperhill
423.496.1826

Downtown Copperhill. Beer and wine.

Ellijay

Cajun Depot Grill
67 Depot Street, Ellijay
706.276.1676

From the four-lane at the Burger King/Food Lion exit, cross the river and turn left, heading toward the old town square. Restaurant is to the right as you cross the tracks. Good seafood in a place that feels like a restaurant. Beer and wine.

Mucho Kaliente
706.636.4192

As you go back to Ellijay from Blue Ridge, turn right at the second traffic light. The restaurant is next to the cinema. Lots of people think this is the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Beer and wine.

Murphy

Shoebooties Café
107 Peachtree, Murphy
828.837.4589

In the old downtown. Sometimes, a piano bar. Beer and wine.

That Great Mountain Tradition, Barbecue

(Most mountain barbecues are closed Monday, Tuesday, and sometimes Wednesday. They are usually open Sunday. They usually do not serve alcohol. Call for hours.)

Bubba's
Nottely Dam Road, Ivy Log
706.745.5821

In Ivy Log (between Blairsville and Murphy) just off 29/129 on the road to Nottely Dam. Take out and outdoor dining only.

Pink Pig
824 Cherry Log Street, Cherry Log
706.276.3311

Cherry Log is between Ellijay and Blue Ridge. The Pink Pig is one block south of the four-lane, on the old highway. Table service. For my money, the best local barbecue.

Poole's Real Pit Barbecue
164 Craig Street, East Ellijay
706.635.4100

From Atlanta, turn right at the first light in East Ellijay (at the Wal-Mart). Take the first left. Counter service. Something of a rarity, Republican barbecue.

Rib Country
373 Young Harris Road, Blairsville
706.781.3530

On the four-lane on the east end of Blairsville, near the Home Depot. Table service. Ribs are good. Barbecue is pork loin, not pork butts.

Two Brothers
Hwy 5, Ball Ground
706.735.2900

Off the old highway, 1 mile north of the old downtown. Table service/counter service. Ball Ground is about halfway between Atlanta and Blue Ridge. This is the one for ambiance. Sawdust on the floor, tons of antique implements, good ribs and cue.
